குறள் 1171:
கண்டாம் கலுழ்வ தெவன்கொலோ தண்டாநோய்
தாங்காட்ட யாங்கண் டது
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
கண்டதால் தானே இன்பமாக கொல்லும் இந்த காதல் ஏற்பட்டது? அவரை காண விடு என அந்த கண்கள் இப்பொழுது கெஞ்சுவது தான் ஏனோ!

Because the eyes saw him and caused me the love on him. Being so, Why are those eyes begging me that I have to let them to see him again?

கடலினும் பெரிதாம் காதல் எனக் கூறி துன்பத்தை வாங்கிய கண்கள் இன்று உறங்க முடியாமல்  வருந்துகிறது.

The eyes which got wantonly the misery by thinking that the love is greater than the ocean is saddening today due to not able to sleep.

ஒரு வகையில் இனிதாய் நான் உணர்கிறேன் ஏனெனில், எனை இக்காதல்-துன்பத்தில் விழவைத்து  துவளவைத்த என் கண்களும் துன்பப்பட்டு வருந்துகிறது.

My eyes got stabled in the entrance to looking for his arrival without even a drop of sleep when he didn't visit often then days. Now the same eyes aren't sleeping due to a kind of fear that he should not leave from me. Is it the pleasance caused by the misery?
