குறள் 1161:
மறைப்பேன்மன் யானிஃதோ நோயை தறைப்பவர்க்
கூற்றுநீர் போல மிகும்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
ஊற்று நீர் இறைக்க இறைக்க தானே மேலும் ஊறும். அது போல, எம் காதலை மறைக்க மறைக்க தான் அது மிகுதியாகிறது.

Explanation in English:
As if water is secreted more and more in the well when the water is pulled out often, our love too gets strengthened more and more when it is suppressed strongly.

கரத்தலும் ஆற்றேன்இந் நோயைநோய் செய்தார்க்
குரைத்தலும் நாணுத் தரும்

விளக்கம்:
காதலின் உக்கிரத்தை  மறைக்க வழியும் தெரியவில்லை, அவரிடம் அதை கூற நான் முயலும்பொழுது எனக்கு வரும் நாணத்தை மீறவும் முடியவில்லை.

I could neither find the way to hide my love on him nor I could dominate the shy that I get when I try to say this matter to him.

காமமும் நாணும் உயிர்காவாத் தூங்குமென்
நோனா உடம்பின் அகத்து

விளக்கம்:
காதல் தரும் இன்ப வலியை எடுத்து கூற இயலாத துன்ப நிலை ஒரு புறம்; மறுபுறம் அதிக அளவு வெட்க்கம். என் இவ்வுடம்பின் அகஉயிர் ஒரு காவடி போல் அப்புறமும் இப்புறமும் ஆடுகிறது.

My soul in this body is dangling here and there like a Cavadi-bar  because I have weight on both side. I get shy one side because of love. I feel misery because of the same love.

ஏமப் புணைமன்னும் இல்

எம் காதல்நோய் கடலினும் பெரிது. அதை கடக்க பாதுகாப்பான படகு என்னிடம் இல்லையென்பதே இங்கு செய்தி.

The pleasant disease of our love is bigger than sea. The matter is that I couldn't avail a safety boat to cross that sea.

காதல்-இன்ப பயணத்தில் இனிமை என்கிற துன்பத்தை தரக்கூடிய என்னவர், பகை வந்தால் எனை காக்க  என்ன செய்வாரென்று தெரியவில்லை.

My man can bring a pleasant pain during our lush travel. But I am not sure what he would take decision if we meet eneminess.

இன்பம் கடல்மற்றுக் காமம் அஃதடுங்கால்
துன்பம் அதனிற் பெரிது

விளக்கம்:
காமத்தில் இணைந்து லயித்திருக்கும்பொழுது ஏற்படும் இன்பம் கடல் போன்றதாக உணர்கிறேன். அது ஏற்படுத்தும் துன்பத்தின் அளவோ அக்கடலை விட பெரிதானதாகும் என்பதும் எனக்கு தெரியும்.

I feel the pleasance like sea when we travel on lush. I know well that the misery caused by the same lush would be larger than the sea.

காமக் கடும்புனல் நீந்திக் கரைகாணேன்
யாமத்தும் யானே உளேன்

விளக்கம்:
காமக்கடலில் நீந்தி கரைகண்டவர் எவரும் இல்லை. அதனால் தான் இரவு முழுதும் விழித்திருக்கிறேனோ?

None has found the shore on swimming on the lush sea. So that Am not I sleeping throughout  the nights?

மன்னுயிர் எல்லாம் துயிற்றி அளித்திரா
என்னல்ல தில்லை துணை

விளக்கம்:
எல்லோரையும் தூங்க வைத்துவிட்டு தான் மட்டும் விழித்திருக்கும் இந்த இரவு-க்கு  நான் மட்டுமே துணை.

Only I am the assistant to the Night that is not sleeping but it makes all sleep.

கொடியார் கொடுமையின் தாம்கொடிய இந்நாள்

இந்த இரவு என்கிற காலம், தான்  எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் நெடு நேர பயணம், காதலர்கள் பிரிந்திருப்பதால் ஏற்படும் துன்பத்தை விட மோசமாக உள்ளதே?

என் மனம் சொல்வது போல் என்னவர் இருக்கும் இடத்தை தேடிச் சென்று நான் அவரை கண்டிருந்தால், என் கண்கள் வெள்ளமாய்  நீரை கொட்டியிருக்காது!
