THE FUNCTIONS OF AUXILIARIES Written by Mahendiran V AUXILIARY is a word that supports to a verb for its action.  A verb cannot function in a sentence without an auxiliary. There are only 26 auxiliaries in the language. AM, IS, ARE, WAS, WERE  These are called DESIGNATED AUXILIARY CUM VERB. These words can function as an auxiliary and as a verb in different situations. The feature of these words is, when these are used as a verb, they will not take any auxiliary for support. DO, DOES, DID, HAVE, HAS, HAD, BE, BEEN, BEING - are called AUXILIARY CUM VERB. Finally I am saying here that you have to follow some rules in dealing with modulation. If you are a person other than the English tongue but running with English, no other way but you have to imitate the native people of English to modulate your voice and tone in English.  A Chinese person is not modulating in original English despite being an English teacher during his teaching to his race. This is the fourth tense. It is used to express a matter that has been going on continually, not continuously. HAVE BEEN or HAS BEEN are used as auxiliaries to the subject based on the person along with the present participle form of the verb. Likely passive voice is not used in this tense though may be used in the American or any other private system. Anyway, we are to do the statement promotion on both voices. "I HAVE BEEN USING THIS COMPUTER SINCE MY CHILDHOOD." I is the subject to the verb. HAVE BEEN USING is the verb. THIS COMPUTER is the object to the verb. SINCE MY CHILDHOOD is the adjunct to the verb. POSITIVE I have been using this computer since my childhood. This computer has been being used by me since my childhood. (NOTE: TH
