குறள் 1031:
சுழன்றும்ஏர்ப் பின்ன துலகம் அதனால்
உழந்தும் உழவே தலை
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
எத்தொழில்கள் எங்கு நடந்தாலும், அத்தொழில்கள் உழவுக்கு பின்னால் தான். உழவு சிரமங்களடங்கிய தொழிலாயினும் அதுவே தலையானதாகும்.

Explanation in English:
Whatever the profession is there, would be behind to agriculture. Despite being difficulties in this profession, only this is the greatest one among all.

உழுவார் உலகத்தார்க் காணியஃ தாற்றா
தெழுவாரை எல்லாம் பொறுத்து
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
உழவை விட்டு விலகிச் சென்று எத்தொழில் செய்தாலும், உழவு, உணவுத் தரும் தொழிலாகையால், உழவே உலகிற்கு அச்சாணியாகும்.

Although some is going away from ploughing and go to other business, as only the ploughing provides food, this is the main axis to the world.

குறள் 1033:
உழுதுண்டு வாழ்வாரே வாழ்வார்மற் றெல்லாம்
தொழுதுண்டு பின்செல் பவர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
உழவு தொழில் செய்வோரே பசியாரும் முதல் உரிமைப் பெற்றவர். மற்றோரெல்லாம் உழவர்க்கு பின்னால் தான் நிற்க வேண்டும்.

Only ploughers are having first right to have food. Others just have to stand behind them.

பலகுடை நீழலும் தங்குடைக்கீழ்க் காண்பர்
அலகுடை நீழ லவர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
பற்பல குடைகளின் - அதாவது அரசன் பணக்காரன் தனவந்தன் வீரன், எளியோர் அறிஞர், முனிவர் ஆகியோரின்- நிழல்கள் (பெருமைகள்),  உணவு தருவதால் உழவர்களின் குடைக்குள் வசப்படும்.

Any kind of pride of any kind of persons like king, richers, valiant, poor, wisdomed, sages all would be subdued to the pride of ploughers.

குறள் 1035:
இரவார் இரப்பார்க்கொன் றீவர் கரவாது
கைசெய்தூண் மாலை யவர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
உழவர் பிறரிடம் கைகட்டி பொருள் கேளாதவர். பிறர் வந்து பொருள் கேட்டால், இல்லை என்று சொல்லாமல் தருபவரும் உழவரே.

Explanation in English:
Ploughers wouldn't stand infront of anyone with any prayer. Also they wouldn't deny to assist others who come to them with prayer.

குறள் 1036:
உழவினார் கைம்மடங்கின் இல்லை விழைவதூஉம்
விட்டேமென் பார்க்கும் நிலை
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
உழவர் தன் தொழிலை முடக்கினால், உணவையும் துறந்து உயர்ந்து நிற்கும் துறவியும் தாழ்ந்து போவர்.

If ploughers stop their work, even sages who have given up food too would suffer.

குறள் 1037:
தொடிப்புழுதி கஃசா உணக்கின் பிடித்தெருவும்
வேண்டாது சாலப் படும்

விளக்கம்:
ஒரு மடங்கு மண்ணை உழுது கால் மடங்காக்கி பயிரிட்டால் போதும். பிடி அளவு உரம் இல்லாமலே பயிர் செழித்து வளரும்.

Explanation in English:
It's enough, if just ploughing and composing well a volume of sand and making it quarter volume on the land, need not fertilise even a bit, the crop would grow up the best.

குறள் 1038:
ஏரினும் நன்றால் எருவிடுதல் கட்டபின்
நீரினும் நன்றதன் காப்பு

விளக்கம்:
உழுவதுடன் உரமிடுவது முக்கியம். உரமிடுவதுடன் நீர் பாய்ச்சுவது முக்கியம். நீர் பாய்ச்சுவதுடன் களை எடுத்தல்  முக்கியம். எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக பயிரை காவல் காப்பது மிகமுக்கியம்.

Fertilising is important besides ploughing. Watering is important besides fertilising. Plucking weeds is important besides watering. Above all, safeguarding crops is very important.

செல்லான் கிழவன் இருப்பின் நிலம்புலந்
தில்லாளின் ஊடி விடும்

விளக்கம்:
உரியவன் தினம் சென்று நிலத்தை பார்க்காவிடில், கணவனால் கவனிக்கப்படாத மனைவி கணவனை வெறுப்பது போல், நிலமும் வெறுத்து பயிர் தராதுபோகும்.

Explanation in English:
If a land lord or farmer doesn't visit and taking care the land as a routine work, the land would result a worse harvest as if uncared wife is getting hatred on her husband.

இலமென் றசைஇ இருப்பாரைக் காணின்
நிலமென்னும் நல்லாள் நகும்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
ஏதும் செய்ய இயலா நிலையில் உள்ளேன் என்று நிலத்துக்குரியவன் சொன்னால், நிலம் அவனை பார்த்து ஏளனமாக சிரிக்கும்.

If a plougher says to his land that he is unable to do anything favourable to the land, the land would mocker at him.
