குறள் 1231:
சிறுமை நமக்கொழியச் சேட்சென்றார் உள்ளி
நறுமலர் நாணின கண்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
காதலர் வெளிதேசம் வரை விலகிச் சென்றதால் சிறுமை துயரம் தாங்காது அழுத அவளின் கண்கள் பொலிவிழந்ததால் நறுமணம் கமழும் மலர்களை முன்பெல்லாம் வென்ற அக்கண்கள் இப்பொழுது தோற்று வெட்கி தலைகுனிந்தன.

Explanation in English:
Because the lover is abroad by parting her, the glittering eyes of her have lost their prettiness due to loss of the lust. The eyes that had defeated fragrant flowers at once were defeated by the same flowers.

நயந்தவர் நல்காமை சொல்லுவ போலும்
பசந்து பனிவாரும் கண்

விளக்கம்:
பிரிவால் துயர்ந்து உடல் நிறமும் வெளிரிப்போய் அழுத அவளது கண்கள் 'தான் விரும்பியவர் தன்னை விரும்பாத அவளது துயரநிலையை எளிதில் பிறர்க்கு சொல்லிவிடும்.

Explanation in English:
Due to parting of love, besides her having pasalai state on her body, her cried eyes too would easily convey the message to others that her lover whom she desires very much doesn't desire her.

தணந்தமை சால அறிவிப்ப போலும்
மணந்தநாள் வீங்கிய தோள்

விளக்கம்:
காதலருடன் இணைந்து வாழ்ந்தபொழுது விசாலமாக இருந்த அவளது தோள்கள், தற்பொழுது காதலரை பிரிந்ததால் மெலிந்துபோனதால் பிரிவை அவள் சொல்லாமலேயே அவளின் மெலிந்த அந்த தோள்கள் பிறர்க்கு சொல்லிவிடும்.

Her arms that were broad and pretty when she was with her lover has become lean now due to the parting of love. This stance would easily signal her status to others.

பணைநீங்கிப் பைந்தொடி சோரும் துணைநீங்கித்
தொல்கவின் வாடிய தோள்

விளக்கம்:
காதலரை பிரிந்ததால் அழகையிழந்து மெலிந்துபோன அவளது தோள்களிலிருந்து (கை மணிக்கட்டுகளிலிருந்து) வளையல்கள் எளிதாய் கழன்று விழுகின்றன.

The bangles too are falling down from her hands since her hands have become very lean due to parting of love.

கொடியார் கொடுமை உரைக்கும் தொடியொடு
தொல்கவின் வாடிய தோள்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
இருந்த அழகையும் இழந்து வளையல்கள் தானாய் விழும் வண்ணம் மெலிந்த அவளது தோள்கள் (கைகள்) தன் காதலர் தன்னை பிரிந்து வருத்தும் செய்தியை உலகுக்கு எளிதாக சொல்கின்றன.

Explanation in English:
Her hands that have lost their beauty and having become lean as far as the bangles are falling down would easily bear the message of parting of love to others.

தொடியொடு தோள்நேகிழ நோவல் அவரைக்
கொடியார் எனக்கூறல் நொந்து
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
'வளையல்கள் கழன்று விழும் அளவுக்கு தோள்கள் மெலிந்து போகும் நிலைக்கு ஆளாக்கின கொடியவன் இவள் காதலன்' என பிறர் தன் காதலனை இழிவாக பேசுவதைக் கேட்டு இன்னும் துன்பமடைகிறாள் அவள்.

When she hears the words of scolding her lover  from others such as " Her lover is cruel because he has pushed her into misery that her hands have become very lean as far as the bangles too are falling down from her hands" her worries go to the toppest.

பாடு பெறுதியோ நெஞ்சே கொடியார்க்கென்
வாடுதோட் பூசல் உரைத்து
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
நெஞ்சே! அவர் பிரிவின் கொடுமையால் தான் என் தோள்கள் மெலிந்து மோசமானது - என்கிற செய்தியை அவரிடம் போய் கூறி நீ புண்ணியம் தேடிக் கொள்வாயாக!

Oh my heart! Please visit my lover and earn more virtue by conveying the message of my hands and arms having become leaned due to his having made sin against me by parting of love.

முயங்கிய கைகளை ஊக்கப் பசந்தது
பைந்தொடிப் பேதை நுதல்

தழுவிய என் கைகள் சற்று தளர்ந்ததும் அணிகலன்கள் அணிந்த பொலிவான அவள் நெற்றி பசலைப் பூத்ததை நினைத்து பார்க்கிறேன். (இதே கருத்தில் முன்பே ஒரு குறள் உண்டு)

Still I remember... No time I left my hugging her a bit, her beautiful forehead that had worn ornaments changed its colour.

முயக்கிடைத் தண்வளி போழப் பசப்புற்ற
பேதை பெருமழைக் கண்

தழுவலில் ஒரு சிறு இடைவெளிவிட்டதும் குளிர் காற்று உள்நுழைந்ததை கூட பொறுத்துக் கொள்ளாத அவளது அழகிய கண்கள் மழையாய் நீர் விட்டு நிறம் மாறிப்போனதை நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன்.

Still I remember.. she teared like rain and her eyes became so red when I just left a gape from our tight hugging and when she felt the cool air passing through such gape.

ஒண்ணுதல் செய்தது கண்டு

பிரிவின் துயரத்தால் அவளின் அகன்ற நெற்றி நிறம் மாறி பசலைக் கண்டதை பார்த்து அவள் கண்களும் பசலைக் கண்டதுதான் துயரின் உச்சம்.

The big misery is that her eyes too changed the colour as soon as her broad forehead changed its colour due worries of parting of love.
