குறள் 801:
பழைமை எனப்படுவ தியாதெனின் யாதும்
கிழமையைக் கீழ்ந்திடா நட்பு
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
நாட்கள் மாறினாலும் எதுவும் மாறாமல் எதையும் மாற்றாமல் பழகும் நட்பே பழைமை எனப்படும்.

Although days are passing, behaving with one without changing anything and keeping deeply the intimacy on friendship is called true oldness or familiarity.

நண்பன் உரிமையாய் ஒன்றை செய்வதே நட்பிற்கு இலக்கணம். அதை எண்ணி பெருமிதம் கொள்ளல் வேண்டும்.

நட்பாய் இருப்பவர் நமக்கு செய்வது ஏற்புடையதில்லை ஆயினும் நன்மைக்கே அது, அதை நாமே செய்தோம் என எடுத்துக்கொள்ளல் சிறந்த நட்பை பாதுகாத்தல் ஆகும்.

நட்பாய் உள்ளவர், நாம் கேளாமலே உரிமையாய் ஒன்றை செய்யுங்கால் அதை விரும்பி ஏற்றுகொண்டால் நாம் அறிஞராய் ஆகிறோம்.

நண்பராக இருப்பவர் செய்தது வருந்தக்கூடியதானாலும் அதை தற்செயலாக உரிமையில் செய்து விட்டார் என்ற மனப்போக்கில் அதை எடுத்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

Even if an activity done by our friend causes some interruption to us, we should consider that such activity is done by him because of intimacy put on us.

தொல்லைக்கண் நின்றார் தொடர்பு

விளக்கம்:
ஒழுக்கத்துடன், இடைவெளிவிட்டு பல நாள் பழகிய நட்பு இனிதாய் இருந்திட்டதால், அவரால் தொல்லைகள் வந்தாலும் கூட,  நல்லோர் அந்நட்பை கைவிடமாட்டார்.

If the distanced and virtual friend's friendshipness is pleasant, good men will not give up his friendship even if meeting some troubles from him.

அழிவந்த செய்யினும் அன்பறார் அன்பின்
வழிவந்த கேண்மை யவர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
நண்பரின் செயல் ஒருவேளை நமக்கு கேடாய் இருந்தாலும் நட்பின் பழைமையை கருதி நட்பை அவசரப்பட்டு நிறுத்திக் கொள்ள கூடாது.

Even though our friend's activity causes some miseries unfortunately, we shouldn't break up the friendship with him because of considering the intimacy and familiarity put on him.

நாளிழுக்கம் நட்டார் செயின்

நண்பர் பிழை செய்து அதை பிறர் வந்து சொல்ல, அதை கோளாமல் இருப்பவர் நல்லார். அந்நண்பர் பிழை செய்தது நன் நாளாக இருக்கலாம்.

If one burns up about one's friend's fault to one, if the listener doesn't care of that, that's great. The day of fault done by him might be good to him.

பகையே இல்லாமல் தொன்றுதொட்டு தொடரும் நட்பை உலகம் உவந்து போற்றும்.
