குறள் 1001:
வைத்தான்வாய் சான்ற பெரும்பொருள் அஃதுண்ணான்
செத்தான் செயக்கிடந்த தில்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
பெரும்பொருள் / செல்வம் நிறைய சேர்த்து வைத்து, வாழும்பொழுது அவற்றை அனுபவிக்க மற்றும் ஈகை செய்யத் தெரியாதவனுக்கு, ஈட்டிய செல்வத்தால் அவனுக்கும் பிறர்க்கும்  பயனில்லையாதலால் அவன் இருந்தும் இறந்தவனே.

Explanation in English:
One who has earned wealth a lot and failing to enjoy such and also failing to help to others is considered as a dead man though he is alive.

குறள் 1002:
பொருளானாம் எல்லாமென்றீயா திவறும்
மருளானாம் மாணாப் பிறப்பு
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
பொருளால் தான் எல்லாம் என்பார், எதையும் சாதிக்கலாம் என்பார், ஈகையும் செய்யேன் என்பார் தானும் எதையும் செய்யேன் என்பார் - இவர் பிறப்பு இழிப்பிறப்பாகும்.

Explanation in English:
If one who earned wealth a lot says that nothing is big one in this world but wealth and one can achieve anything by money and, if he wouldn't help to others and  he too wouldn't enjoy, his birth is disgrace to this world.

ஈட்டம் இவறி இசைவேண்டா ஆடவர்
தோற்றம் நிலக்குப் பொறை

விளக்கம்:
அதிக பொருள் ஈட்ட மட்டும் ஆர்வம் கொண்டு மற்ற எவற்றாலும் புகழ் தேட விரும்பாதார் இப்பூமிக்கு பாரமானவராவார்.

One who is eager only to earn wealth and not to get fame by doing any other moral acts, and being not to be helpful to others is just an unwanted load to the earth.

எச்சமென் றென்னெண்ணுங் கொல்லோ ஒருவரால்
நச்சப் படாஅ தவன்

விளக்கம்:
வாழும் பொழுது எவர்க்கும் எவ்விதத்திலும் பயன் இல்லாது யாராலும் விரும்பப்படாதவன், 'தான் மாண்ட பின் எப்புகழையும் பெறமாட்டான்.

Explanation in English:
One who is not liked by anyone because of not being useful to the anyone at any respect wouldn't get any goodwill after he demises.

கொடுப்பதூஉம் துய்ப்பதூஉம் இல்லார்க் கடுக்கிய
கோடியுண் டாயினும் இல்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
சேர்த்து வைத்த செல்வத்தை நுகரவும் செய்யாது, பிறர்க்கு உதவவும் செய்யாது அடுக்கி வைத்திருப்பது கோடிகோடியாயினும் அவை இருந்தும் இல்லாதவையே.

Explanation in English:
If crores of wealth earned by one is not to be useful to anyone and isn't used by the earner, such fund is considered invalid despite existing.

ஏதம் பெருஞ்செல்வம் தான்துவ்வான் தக்கார்க்கொன்
றீத லியல்பிலா தான்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
தானும் அனுபவிக்காது, பிறர்க்கும் உதவாது பூட்டி வைத்திருக்கும் ஒருவனின் செல்வமும் அவனும் ஒரு நோயே.

If the stance of the wealth earned by one is neither enjoyed by one nor being useful to others, he and his wealth is considered just as a disease.

அற்றார்க்கொன் றாற்றாதான் செல்வம் மிகநலம்
பெற்றாள் தமியள்மூத் தற்று
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
வலியோனிடம் உள்ள செல்வம் எளியோருக்கு பயன்படாதுபோவதென்பது, ஒரு அழகு பதுமை பெண் மணமாகாமல் அப்படியே இருந்து முதுமை பெற்றதற்கு சமம்.

The state of not being useful of a rich man's wealth to the society is like a pretty woman is getting old without getting married.

நச்சுப் படாதவன் செல்வம் நடுவூருள்
நச்சு மரம்பழுத் தற்று
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
ஒருவனின் செல்வம் யாருக்கும் பயன்படாமல் வீணாகிப்போனால், அது நச்சு மரம் ஒன்று நடுத்தெருவில் பழுத்து குலுங்கியது போலாகும்.

If the wealth of one is going to be useless as it's being helpful to none, that is considered as a toxic tree is planted on the mid of the town.

அன்பொரீஇத் தற்செற் றறநோக்கா தீட்டிய
ஒண்பொருள் கொள்வார் பிறர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
அன்பும் இல்லாது அறத்தையும் மீறி தன்னையும் வருத்தி ஈகையும் செய்யாது ஒருவன் குவித்து வைத்திருக்கும் செல்வம் ஒரு நாள் யாராலோ அபகரிக்கப்படும்.

The wealth cummulated by one who trespasses the moral ways and not having helping tendency and not having even a bit of kindness would be grabbed by somebody else one day.

சீருடைச் செல்வர் சிறுதுனி மாரி
வறங்கூர்ந் தனைய துடைத்து
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
தான் தேடிய செல்வத்தை பிறர்க்கு கொடுத்து உதவ நினைக்கும் செல்வந்தர்களின் வறுமை, மழை தரும் மேகம் வறுமை கொண்டதற்கு ஈடானதாகும்.

The state of attaining poverty of rich men who would like to be helpful to others financially is equallent to the clouds which provide rain to the Earth attain poverty.
