குறள் 61:
பெறுமவற்றுள் யாமறிவ தில்லை அறிவறிந்த
மக்கட்பே றல்ல பிற

விளக்கம்:
அறிவார்ந்த குழந்தைகளை பெற்றிருப்பதை காட்டிலும் பெருஞ்செல்வம் இவ்வுலகில் வேறு எதுவுமில்லை.

Explanation in English:
No any other wealth is the biggest to one in the world but to having intellectual children.

எழுபிறப்பும் தீயவை தீண்டா பழிபிறங்காப்
பண்புடை மக்கட் பெறின்

விளக்கம்:
சமூகத்தில் யாதொரு கலங்கமும் இல்லா அறிவிற்சிறந்த குழந்தைகளை பெற்றிருந்தால் ஏழேழு பிறவியிலும் வருத்தம் வராது.

Explanation in English:
One who has wisdom children those without carrying any dirty grade from the society will not meet any sadness ever.

தம்பொருள் என்பதம் மக்கள் அவர்பொருள்
தந்தம் வினையான் வரும்

விளக்கம்:
தம்பதியினர் என்ன தான் தன் மக்களை புகழாக மெச்சினாலும், மக்களின் (குழந்தைகளின்) நல்லவை கெட்டவை அவர்களின் நன்நடத்தைகளால் பெறக்கூடியவைகளே.

Though parents say children are their sources, betterment and sadness of children are obtained by their own virtues and sins.

அமிழ்தினும் ஆற்ற இனிதேதம் மக்கள்
சிறுகை அளாவிய கூழ்

விளக்கம்:
அமிர்தத்தை காட்டிலும், ஒரு பெற்றோருக்கு சுவையான உணவு யாதெனில், தன் குழந்தைகள் தங்கள் கைகளால் பிசைந்து தரும் ஒரு கவளம் கஞ்சியே.

Explanation in English:
The top most best food greater than nectar in the world to parents is only the kneaded kanji by hands of their children.

மக்கள்மெய் தீண்டல் உடற்கின்பம் மற்றவர்
சொற்கேட்டல் இன்பம் செவிக்கு

விளக்கம்:
பெற்றோரிடன் குழந்தைகள் பெறும் அரவணைப்பும், குழந்தைகளின் இனிமையான மழலை சப்தமும் தரும் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு ஈடு இணை வேறெதுவுமில்லை.

Explanation in English:
No any other pleasance is to both child and parent than hugging affectionately, likewise the sweetest sound to parent is to hearing early talks of child.

குழலினி தியாழினி தென்பதம் மக்கள்
மழலைச்சொல் கேளா தவர்

விளக்கம்:
தன் குழந்தைகளின் மழலை சப்தங்களை கேட்காத பெற்றோர்களே குழலும் யாழும் இனிமையாக இருக்கிறது என்பர்.

Parents those who haven't heard the early talks of children may say that the sounds of fluet and veena are sweet.

தந்தை மகற்காற்றும் நன்றி அவையத்து
முந்தி இருப்பச் செயல்

விளக்கம்:
ஒரு தந்தை மகனுக்கு/மகளுக்கு செய்யக்கூடிய சிறந்த உபகாரம் எது என்றால், அவர்களை சமூகத்தில் ஒழுக்க சீலர்களாக்குவதும் கல்விமான்களாக்குவதும்தான்.

The highest assistance of father that to be done to his son is to make him the best and first in literate.

தம்மின்தம் மக்கள் அறிவுடைமை மாநிலத்து
மன்னுயிர்க் கெல்லாம் இனிது

விளக்கம்:
பெற்றோரை விட பிள்ளைகள் கல்வியில் சிறந்து விளங்கும் நிலைப்பாடு பெற்றோருக்கு சந்தோஷம் தருவதோடு அனைத்து உயிரினங்களுக்கும் நன்மைபயக்கக்கூடியதாகும்.

If children are greater in literate than parents, the stance of such is not only happiness of parents but also helpful to all living beings.

ஈன்ற பொழுதின் பெரிதுவக்கும் தன்மகனைச்
சான்றோன் எனக்கேட்ட தாய்

விளக்கம்:
பெற்றோருக்கு, தன் பிள்ளைகள் சமூகத்தில் நல்ல அந்தஸ்த்தில் உள்ளார்கள் என்று கேட்கும் ஒலியே  அவர்களை பெற்றெடுத்த பொழுது கிடைத்த சந்தோஷத்தை விட பெரிதானதாகும்.

Explanation in English:
The good talks of society about her son will cause more happy to a mother than the happiness felt by here when she had given him birth

மகன் தந்தைக் காற்றும் உதவி இவன்தந்தை
என்நோற்றான் கொல்லெனும் சொல்

விளக்கம்:
ஒரு மகன் தன் தந்தைக்கு செய்யும் பெரிய உதவி எது என்றால், தன் நன்நடத்தையாலும் தான் பெறும் புகழாலும் 'இவனை பெறுவதற்கு இவன் தந்தை எத்தனை தவம் செய்தானோ' என்று சமூகத்தை புகழவைப்பதுதான்.

Explanation in English:
The greatest help of a son to his father is by having good attitudes that the society has to applaud his father's prayer for his being born him son.
