குறள் 341:
யாதனின் யாதனின் நீங்கியான் நோதல்
அதனின் அதனின் அலன்

விளக்கம்:
ஒருவர் ஒன்றின் மீதுள்ள பற்றை துறந்துவிட்டால், அதன்மூலம் ஏற்படும் துன்பத்தை அடையமாட்டார்.

Explanation in English:
If one quits all desires of a thing, he will be away from miseries caused by such thing.

குறள் 342:
வேண்டினுண் டாகத் துறக்க துறந்தபின்
ஈண்டியற் பால பல

விளக்கம்:
விரும்பத்தக்கதாக ஒன்று இருப்பினும் அதை துறந்துவிட்டால் அதனால் அடையும் இன்பங்களோ பற்பல.

Explanation in English:
If one quits a thing that is such a admirable one of him, many more immense happiness would cummulate to him.

குறள் 343:
அடல்வேண்டும் ஐந்தன் புலத்தை விடல்வேண்டும்
வேண்டிய வெல்லாம் ஒருங்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கியாளும் வித்தையை அறிந்து கொள்ளும்பட்சத்தில் அவை விரும்பும் அனைத்தையும் துறந்துவிடலாம்.

Explanation in English:
If one knows to control all five senses, he can quit the desires caused by those five senses.

குறள் 344:
இயல்பாகும் நோன்பிற்கொன் றின்மை உடைமை
மயலாகும் மற்றும் பெயர்த்து

விளக்கம்:
தவ நிலையின் இயல்பு எதுவென்றால் யாதொரு உடைமை மீதும் பற்றில்லாமல் இருத்தலே. உடைமைபால் மதிமயங்கி பற்று கொண்டால் துறவு பெறமுடியாது.

Explanation in English:
The base of penance is that to quit the desire put on anything. If one affectionates lovingly on anything, Hardly to get the stance of asceticsm.

மற்றுந் தொடர்ப்பா டெவன்கொல் பிறப்பறுக்கல்
உற்றார்க் குடம்பும் மிகை

விளக்கம்:
பிறவியின் துன்பம் வேண்டாம் என நினைப்போருக்கு அவர் தன்  உடம்பே மிகையாக இருக்கும்பொழுது பிற ஆசைகளுக்கு இடமே இல்லை.

Explanation in English:
The entire body alone is a gift to ones those who don't want the miseries of births. Being so, other desires are unnecessary.

யானென தென்னுஞ் செருக்கறுப்பான் வானோர்க்
குயர்ந்த உலகம் புகும்

விளக்கம்:
நான் தான் எல்லாம் என்ற செருக்கை அறுத்தாலே போதும் வானுலத்தை விட உயர்ந்த உலகத்தில் உட்புகலாம்.

Explanation in English:
If one cuts out the haughtiness thought "Only I am all", he will have been living in better than the heavenly world.

பற்றி விடாஅ இடும்பைகள் பற்றினைப்
பற்றி விடாஅ தவர்க்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஆசைகளை விடாமல் அகத்தில் கொள்வோரை துன்பங்கள் விடாமல் பற்றிக்கொள்ளும்.

Explanation in English:
Miseries would strongly hug those who don't quit desires but pasting them in their mind.

தலைப்பட்டார் தீரத் துறந்தார் மயங்கி
வலைப்பட்டார் மற்றை யவர்

விளக்கம்:
அனைத்து ஆசைகளையும் துறந்தவரே முற்றும் துறந்தவராவர். ஏனேயோர் ஆசையெனும் வலையில் சிக்கிக்கொண்டவராவர்.

Explanation in English:
Only those who quit all desires are known as complete ascetics. Others are those who are trapped in the net of greed.

பற்றற்ற கண்ணே பிறப்பறுக்கும் மற்று
நிலையாமை காணப் படும்

விளக்கம்:
ஆசைகளற்ற வாழ்க்கையே மறுபிறப்பை அறுக்கும். இல்லேல் பிறந்து பிறந்து சாகும் நிலைதான் தொடரும்.

Explanation in English:
Only the desireless life would cut off the stance of rebirths. Otherwise, should get rebirths and meet out suffering ever.

பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை அப்பற்றைப்
பற்றுக பற்று விடற்கு

விளக்கம்:
பற்று அற்றவர்களின் பற்று யாதென்று அறிந்து அதனை பற்றிக்கொண்டாலே பற்றுகளனைத்தையும் விட்டுவிடலாம்.

Explanation in English:
If one knows the desire of ones those who quit all desires, he can quit all of his desires.
