குறள் 391:
கற்க கசடறக் கற்பவை கற்றபின்
நிற்க அதற்குத் தக
- தெய்வப்புலவர்.

விளக்கம்:
கற்றவைகளை நல்லவைகளாக்கி கொள்ளவேண்டும். அல்லது நல்லவைகளை மட்டுமே கற்க வேண்டும். கற்றதோடு நிற்காமல், கற்றவர் என்கிற தகுதி நிலைபெறும் வகையில் செயல்பாடுகள் இருத்தல் வேண்டும்.

One should make their learned aspects be good for life or should learn only good aspects. The importance is that he should  have all quallities based on his learning.

எண்ணென்ப ஏனை யெழுத்தென்ப இவ்விரண்டுங்
கண்ணென்ப வாழும் உயிர்க்கு

கணிதம் சார்ந்த கல்வியை  கலைகளுடன் ஒருங்கிணைத்து கற்றல் அனைத்துயிர்களுக்கும் இரு கண்களை போன்றதாகும்.

கண்ணுடைய ரென்பவர் கற்றோர் முகத்திரண்டு
புண்ணுடையர் கல்லா தவர்

விளக்கம்:
கற்றோருக்கு தான் கண்கள் இருந்து பயன். கல்லார்க்கு கண்களிலிருந்தும் கண்ணில்லாதவர்களாகவே கருதப்படுவர்.

Only educated are having eyes. Despite having eye sight, if one is illeducated he would be considered as not having eyes.

விளக்கம்:
மகிழ்வுடன் கூடி கருத்துரைத்து, பிரிதலின்பொழுது, இனி இவரை எப்பொழுது காண்போம் என்கிற தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவதே கற்றோரின் தொழில் பக்தி.

உடையார்முன் இல்லார்போல் ஏக்கற்றுங் கற்றார்
கடையரே கல்லா தவர்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்.

விளக்கம்:
வலியோர் முன் எளியார் ஏங்கி நிற்பது போல், கற்றோர் முன் காத்துநின்று கல்வி பயின்றோரே கற்றார் ஆவர். அப்படி செய்ய வெட்க்கப்பட்டோர் கல்லார் ஆவர்.

As if poor is waiting infront of rich for getting gain, Ones who are eagerly learning by waiting for scholars are Literates. Those who shied to do so are illeducated.

கற்றனைத் தூறும் அறிவு

புவியில் எவ்வளவு தோண்டுகிறோமோ அவ்வளவு நீர் சுரக்கும் அது போல எவ்வளவு கற்கிறோமோ அவ்வளவு அறிவு பிறக்கும.

As if water secretes from the earth as far as the level of digging the earth, Knowledge would secrete as far as one's evel of learning capability.

யாதானும் டாடாமால் ஊராமால் என்னொருவன்
சாந்துணையுங் கல்லாத வாறு
- தெய்வப்புலவர்.

விளக்கம்:
கற்றவர் எல்லா தேசத்திலும் ஊரிலும் சிறப்பு பெறுவர். இதையறிந்தும் கடைசிவரை கல்லாமல் இருப்பது மடைமை.

Despite knowing the Literates would get fame wherever they go  across the world, being without learning is foolish.

கெழுமையும் ஏமாப் புடைத்து

விளக்கம்:
கற்கும் கல்வி ஒருவரின் இப்பிறவிக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, ஏழு பிறவிக்கும் சந்ததிகளுக்கும் பயனுள்ளதாக அமையும்.

கற்றோர், தாமும் இவ்வுலகமும் கல்வி கற்றதன் பயனால் இன்புறுவதைக் கண்டு மேலும் மேலும் கற்க விரும்புவர்.

கல்வி ஒன்றே ஒருவருக்கு அழியாச் செல்வம். இதற்கு ஈடாக யாதொன்றையும் குறிப்பிடமுடியாது.
