குறள் 271:
வஞ்ச மனத்தான் படிற்றொழுக்கம் பூதங்கள்
ஐந்தும் அகத்தே நகும்

விளக்கவுரை:
ஒழுக்கமற்ற வஞ்சகத்தனமான குணமுள்ளவரை இந்த பஞ்சபூதங்களும் பார்த்து எள்ளிநகையாடும்.

The five Gods in this Universe would giggle at those who immoral dirty guys.

வானுயர் தோற்றம் எவன்செய்யுந் தன்நெஞ்சத்
தானறி குற்றப் படின்

விளக்கவுரை:
தன் குற்றத்தை தன் மனசாட்சியே உறுத்தியும் தொடருங்கால் தவம் செய்தும் புண்ணியமில்லை.

Explanation in English:
If one resumes his crime though his conscience reminds him, his doing penance is useless.

புலியின்தோல் போர்த்துமேய்ந் தற்று

விளக்கவுரை:
தீயமனம் மனதில்கொண்டு நல்லோர் போல் நடிப்போர் புலித்தோல் போர்த்திக்கொண்டு பசுவை போல் புல் மேய்வதற்கு ஒப்பாகும்.

Explanation in English:
While carrying dirty a lot inside pretending honestly outside is like a cow is eating grass with tiger skinned.

தவமறைந் தல்லவை செய்தல் புதல்மறைந்து
வேட்டுவன் புள்சிமிழ்த் தற்று

விளக்கவுரை:
தவக்கோலம் பூண்டு தவறுகள் பல இழைத்தல், புதரில் மறைந்து நின்று வேட்டையாடுவதற்கு சமமாகும்.

Explanation in English:
Doing illy affairs a lot with a dress code of sages is as bad as a hunter is hunting by hiding in the bush.

பற்றற்றேம் என்பார் படிற்றொழுக்கம் எற்றெற்றென்
றேதம் பலவுந் தரும்

விளக்கவுரை:
பற்று அனைத்தும் துறந்தேன் என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு அவச்செயல்கள் செய்வோர்க்கு துன்பம்தான் பரிசாக வரும்.

If one says that he has quitted all desires without behaving so, he would  be gifted sadness.

நெஞ்சின் துறவார் துறந்தார்போல் வஞ்சித்து
வாழ்வாரின் வன்கணா ரில்

விளக்கவுரை:
பற்று எதனையும் துறக்காமல் துறந்தது போல் நடிப்பவர்கள் தான் இவ்வுலகின் முதற்கண் இரக்கமற்றவர்கள்/ஏமாற்றுக்காரர்கள்.

Explanation in English:
Ones who are without quitting all greed but pretending as if he has done so are the first merciless persons/ cheaters.

புறங்குன்றி கண்டனைய ரேனும் அகங்குன்றி
மூக்கிற் கரியா ருடைத்து

விளக்கவுரை:
அகத்தில் அழுக்கையும் புறத்தில் அழகையும் கொண்டுள்ளவர்களின் நிலைப்பாடு, குன்றிமணி சிகப்பாய் தோன்றினாலும் அதன் முனை கருப்பாக இருக்கும் நிலைக்கு ஒப்பானதாகும்.

Explanation in English:
The stance of those who are dirty inside but beauty outside is  like a rosary pea that looks beautiful outside but carries black in corner.

மனத்தது மாசாக மாண்டார்நீ ராடி
மறைந்தொழுகு மாந்தர் பலர்

விளக்கவுரை:
புறத்திலுள்ள மாசை அகற்ற நீராடினால் போதும் என்றாலும் அகத்திலுள்ள அழுக்கை அகற்ற வழி?

Explanation in English:
Dusts in body can be removed by bathing, but what is the way to wash the dusts that are inside?

கணைகொடியது யாழ்கோடு செவ்விதாங் கனை
வினைபடு பாலாற் கொளல்

விளக்கவுரை:
அம்பு (கணை) நேரானதாக இருந்து கொடிய செயல் செய்யக்கூடியதாலும். யாழ் வளைந்திருந்து இனிய ஓசை தரக்கூடியதாலும், உருவம் என்பது வினைபடும் தன்மையை பொறுத்தது.

Explanation in English:
Arrow is straight but it attacks. Veena is bended but it delivers sweety sound. so that Grading is not determined of one's appearance.

மழித்தலும் நீட்டலும் வேண்டா உலகம்
பழித்த தொழித்து விடின்

விளக்கவுரை:
உலகம் பழிக்கும் இழி செயல்களை முற்றிலும் துறந்தாலே போதும். முடி வளர்த்தல், முடி மழித்தல் போன்ற வேடங்கள் தேவையில்லை.

Explanation in English:
The status of sages is that quitting all indisciplinary activities that are against justice. It doesn't mean the act of growing a long hair or removing hair completely.
