குறள் 291:
வாய்மை எனப்படுவ தியாதெனின் யாதொன்றந்
தீமை யிலாத சொலல்

விளக்கம்:
வாய்மை என்பது என்னவென்றால், பிறருக்கு தீங்கு தராத வார்த்தைகளை மட்டும் பேசுதல் ஆகும்.

Explanation in English:
What the truthful honesty is that to  pronounce/speak only good words that should not cause any evil to others.

குறள் 292:
பொய்ம்மையும் வாய்மை யிடத்த புரைதீர்ந்த
நன்மை பயக்கு மெனின்

விளக்கம்:
பொய்மை உரைத்தல் ஆகாது தான் எனினும், பொய்மையால்  நன்மைபயக்கும் பட்சத்தில் பொய்மை கூட வாய்மையாகும்.

Explanation in English:
Lying is not good but if it is spoken for any good affair that too is considered a kind of truthfulness.

தன்நெஞ் சறிவது பொய்யற்க பொய்த்தபின்
தன்நெஞ்சே தன்னைச் சுடும்

விளக்கம்:
பேசுவது பொய்மையென்று அறிந்தும் பொய் பேசுபவர்களின் மனசாட்சியே அவர்களை உறுத்தும்.

Explanation in English:
One's conscience would be punishing him if one speaks lies despite knowing that is not good.

உள்ளத்தாற் பொய்யா தொழுகின் உலகத்தார்
உள்ளத்து ளெல்லாம் உளன்

விளக்கம்:
உள்ளத்துள் பொய் பேசாது வாழ்பவர்கள் உலகத்தார் உள்ளத்துள் குடியிருப்பார்கள்.

Explanation in English:
Those who don't speak lies at any circumstance would be tending in all people's heart.

மனத்தொடு வாய்மை மொழியின் தவத்தொடு
தானஞ்செய் வாரின் தலை

விளக்கம்:
தவத்தின் மூலம் ஞானம் பெற்று விளங்குபவர்களை விட பொய் பேசாது வாழும் மக்களே உயர்ந்தவர்கள்.

Explanation in English:
Those who live without lying are considered as greater people than the people who had obtained wisdom by their penance.

பொய்யாமை யன்ன புகழில்லை எய்யாமை
எல்லா அறமுந் தரும்

விளக்கம்:
பொய் பேசாது வாழும் நிலையே உயர்ந்தது. புண்ணியம் அனைத்தும் தானாய் வந்துசேரும்.

Explanation in English:
The life without lies is the highest one. Graces would cummulate to them who observe such life.

பொய்யாமை பொய்யாமை ஆற்றின் அறம்பிற
செய்யாமை செய்யாமை நன்று

விளக்கம்:
பொய்மை பேசாது வாழ்ந்தாலே போதும். அது பலருக்கு அறம் செய்து வாழும் நிலைக்கு ஒப்பாகும்.

Explanation in English:
It's enough living without speaking lies. That stance is equallent to the stance of life doing infinite Morality.

புறந்தூய்மை நீரா னமையும் அகந்தூய்மை
வாய்மையால் காணப் படும்

விளக்கம்:
புறத்தூய்மை நீரால் ஏற்படுவதுபோல அகத்தூய்மை வாய்மையால் ஏற்படும்.

Explanation in English:
As if making tidyness of body washing by using water, tidyness of mind and heart are made by being honest.

எல்லா விளக்கும் விளக்கல்ல சான்றோர்க்குப்
பொய்யா விளக்கே விளக்கு

விளக்கம்:
இருளை போக்கும் எல்லா விளக்குகளையும் விட உயரிய விளக்கு உள்ளத்துள் நிற்கும் பொய்யாமை குணமே ஆகும்.

Explanation in English:
The stance of having trait of without lying is concerned as a greater holy lamp than all lamps which hurl up darks in the world.

யாமெய்யாக் கண்டவற்று ளில்லை எனைத்தொன்றும்
வாய்மையின் நல்ல பிற

விளக்கம்:
யாமறிந்த வகையில், வாய்மைக்கு நிகரான சிறப்புநிலையாக எதையும் ஒப்பிட்டு கூற இயலாது.

As far I have known no any stance can be said as greater one than one's being truthful.
