குறள் 431:
செருக்குஞ் சினமுஞ் சிறுமையும் இல்லார்
பெருக்கம் பெருமித நீர்த்து
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
ஆணவம் சினம் காமம் இவை மூன்றையும் அகற்றினால் பெருமையாக வாழலாம்.

சிறிதளவு குற்றமாகினும் அதுவும் பெரியக் குற்றங்களுக்கு சமம் தான் என்று கருதி குற்றம் செய்யாதிருப்போரே பழிக்கு அஞ்சி நடப்பவராவர்.

No size for crime. Even if it is a little one, one should consider such is big. If one follows this concept that means that he is the man who fears to sins.

அற்றந் தரூஉம் பகை

விளக்கம்:
குற்றம் அது பழி கொணரும். பகையை தரும். அழிவுக்கான ஆதாரம் அது. குற்றம் காக்க குற்றம் செய்யின் தீமையை விலைக்கு வாங்குவது போலாகும்.

Crime would bring sin, eneminess. That is the factor for demise. If one commits at crime, it mean that he purchases evils by paying money.

வைத்தூறு போலக் கெடும்

குற்றம் செய்யும் முன்பே அதை செய்யாதிருக்க பண்படாதவனின் வாழ்க்கை எரியும் தீயின் அருகில் இருக்கும் வைக்கோல் போல் கருகிப்போகும்.

If one doesn't stop himself crimes even if he is in the situation to do, that is like hills of straws is kept near the flaming fire.

தன்குற்ற நீக்கிப் பிறர்குற்றங் காண்கிற்பின்
என்குற்ற மாகும் இறைக்கு

பிறரிடம் குற்றம் காணும் முன்னே தன்பால் ஏதும் குற்றம் இல்லை என்று நிற்பவனே குறையில்லாத அரசன்.

கொடையேதும் செய்யாது கஞ்சம் காட்டி பூட்டி வைக்கப்பட்ட செல்வம் வீணாய் அழிந்துபோகும்.

One's wealth that is kept locked as stinginess by not using that to donate to inabilities will vanish itself.

எண்ணப் படுவதொன் றன்று

பொருளின் அல்லது செல்வத்தின் மேல் வீணான பற்றுக்கொண்டு அது சேர வேண்டிய இடத்திற்கு செல்ல விடாமல் நிறுத்திவைப்பதே பெருங் குற்றமாகும்.

நன்மை தரும் செயல் செய்யாது தன்னைக் கண்டு தானே வியந்து பாராட்டிக் கொண்டிருப்பவன் நல்ல மனிதனில்லை.

Instead of doing good acts, if one's getting surprised of his own prides and speaking proudly himself, he is  not a good person.

தன் விருப்பம் எதுவென்று பிறர் அறியாவண்ணம் செயல்படுபவனை/ ஆட்சி புரிபவனை பகைவனின் வஞ்சனை கூட எதுவும் செய்யாது.
