பொருளல் லவரைப் பொருளாகச் செய்யும்
பொருளல்ல தில்லை பொருள்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
மதியில்லாதவரையும் மதியுள்ளவராக்கி மதிக்கத்தக்கவராக்கும் ஒரே கருவி, ஒருவரிடம் குவியும் செல்வம் தான்.

செல்வமில்லாதவரை விட செல்வம் நிறைந்திருப்போரை தான் இவ்வுலகம் போற்றுவது இயற்கையாக உள்ளது.

It seems to be nature that only the persons who have wealth a lot are praised by the world, than those who have no sufficient wealth.

பொருளென்னும் பொய்யா விளக்கம் இருளறுக்கும்
எண்ணிய தேயத்துச் சென்று

விளக்கம்:
செல்வம் எனும் அனையா விளக்கு தேசமெங்கும் சென்று பகை எனும் இருளை போக்க வல்லது.

பிறர்க்கு தீமை தராது திரட்டிய பணம் மட்டுமே ஒருவனுக்கு அன்பையும் அறனையும் தந்து நிலைத்து நிற்கும்.

Only the wealth earned by moral way without giving any adversities to any one would stably tend with one granting him morality and kindness.

விளக்கம்:
அறவழியில், அன்புடைமையுடன்  ஈட்டா பணம் அடிவாசல் வந்து நின்றாலும் அதனை அனுமதித்திடல் கூடாது.

உறுபொருளும் உல்கு பொருளுந்தன் ஒன்னார்த்
தெறுபொருளும் வேந்தன் பொருள்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
வரி, திறை, சுங்கத்தின் மூலம் வசூலிக்கும் செல்வம், பகைவரை வீழ்த்தி கொணர்ந்த செல்வம் அனைத்தும் அரசனுடையதே.

The wealth collected through many kinds of taxes including customs affairs and the same brought from other contries by winning in the war belong to the king of the nation.

அருளென்னும் அன்பீன் குழவி பொருளென்னும்
செல்வச் செவிலியால் உண்டு
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
அன்பினால் ஈன்ற அருள் ஒரு குழந்தையாக கருதப்படுமானால் அக்குழந்தை, செல்வம் எனும் செவிலி தாயாரால் வளர்க்கப்படுவது ஆகும். (செல்வம் இல்லாமல் அருள் ஒளி பெறாது என்கிறார்)

If the grace obtained from the kindness is considered as a child, it would be bred of course by a step mother that is called wealth. (The Saint Poet says that the grace wouldn't glitter without wealth)

குன்றேறி யானைப்போர் கண்டற்றால் தன்கைத்தொன்
றுண்டாகச் செய்வான் வினை
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
கைக்கொண்ட செல்வத்தை கொண்டு, தெரிந்த தொழிலை செய்பவது, இரு யானைகள் சண்டையிடுவதை அருகில் நின்று கண்டு ஆபத்தை சந்திக்காது குன்றின் மீது நின்று அப்போரை காண்பதற்கு ஒப்பாகும்.

If one starts his known business by the money with his hand and surviving, that is equallent to looking at two elephants fighting with each other in the land, by standing on a hill safely instead of standing near the fight unsafely.

எஃதனிற் கூரிய தில்

விளக்கம்:
பகைவர்களின் ஆணவத்தை அகற்ற வேண்டுமெனில், போதுமான செல்வம் கையிருப்பு வேண்டும். அதற்கு இணையான வலுவான வாள் எதுவுமில்லை.

Of course it is must having a sufficient own wealth to abate/remove the aragance of the enemies. No any other strong sword is as it is.

ஏனை இரண்டும் ஒருங்கு

விளக்கம்:
நல்வழிகளில் திரட்டிய நற்பொருள் நலம் பட இருந்தால், அறம் இன்பம் இரண்டும் தானாய் அமையும்.
