குறள் 851:
இகலென்ப எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் பகலென்னும்
பண்பின்மை பாரிக்கும் நோய்
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
எல்லா உயிர்களையும் சமமாக கருதாத  பண்பு ஒரு தீய குணமாகும். மனித உயிர்க்கு மற்ற உயிர்கள் மாறுபட்டது என்பது இகல் ஆகும். இது ஒரு வஞ்சனை குணமாகும்.

The characteristic of not treating all living things equally is an evil trait.  This type of character means that human life is different from other living things. This is a kind of is a treacherous characteristic.

இன்னாசெய் யாமை தலை

விளக்கம்:
தம் கருத்தோடு ஒவ்வாத ஒரு வினையை ஒருவர் செய்யுங்கால், அவ்வேற்றுமையை கருதி அவருக்கு துன்பம் தருதல் கூடாது.

ஒருவர் மாறுபட்ட கருத்தை உடையவராதலால் அவர் மீது வெறுப்பு காட்டும் புத்தியை ஒருவர் அகற்றிவிட்டால் அவரின் புகழ் கூடும்.

ஒருவருக்கு அடுத்தவர் மீது காட்டும் வெறுப்பே பெருந்துன்பமாகும். அத்துன்பத்தை நீக்கிவிட்டால், ஈடில்லா இன்பம் வந்துசேரும்.

மிகலூக்கும் தன்மை யவர்

ஒருவர் மீது வெறுப்பை உமிழாமல் சாய்ந்தொழுகும் பண்பை பெற்று விட்டால், வல்லோரையும் வெல்வராகிவிடுவார் அவர்.

If one acquires the habit of leaning on someone's thoughts (but it should be the right one) without spitting hatred on another, he will become a winner over the world.

இகலின் மிகலினி தென்பவன் வாழ்க்கை
தவலும் கெடலும் நணித்து

விளக்கம்:
மாறுபட்ட கருத்துடையவரிடம் வெறுப்புடன் வாழ்ந்து வென்றுவிடலாம் என்று எண்ணி வாழ்பவரின் வாழ்க்கை விரைவிலேயே கெடும்.

The life of a person who thinks that he can live and win with hatred towards a person who has different opinion will soon be ruined. (This matter is depending upon the good quality of the opinion the other person)

இன்னா அறிவி னவர்

விளக்கம்:
பகையுணர்வும் வெறுப்பும் கொண்டோர், அதை விட்டால்தான் வாழ்வில் வெற்றிபெற முடியும் என்கிற நீதியை அறியாதவராவார்.

வெறுப்பு உமிழ்ந்து வாழும் பண்பிற்கு எதிராக நடப்பது இனிமைக்கு வழிவகுக்கும். இல்லை, அதுவே சரியென்று வாழ்வோரின் வாழ்வு கெடும்.

Living against the habit of spewing hatred can lead to sweetness. The life of one being against this said principle would be collapsed soon.

மிகல்காணும் கேடு தரற்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஆக்கம் நிறைந்து வாழ்பவர் இகல் பண்பை நோக்க மாட்டார். மாறாராக இகல் பண்பை அனைத்துக்கொண்டால், துன்பத்தை வரவேற்கிறார் என்றர்த்தம்.

The one who lives full of creation will not look at the character of hatred. On the contrary, if he looks at the same, that means that he welcomes suffering himself.

இகல் எனும் பகையுணர்வு வாழ்க்கை, அல்லலுக்கு வழிவகுக்கும். இகல் இல்லாத வாழ்க்கை புகழ் எனும் பெருமை தரும்.
