குறள் 221:
வறியார்க்கொன் றீவதே ஈகைமற் றெல்லாங்
குறியெதிர்ப்பை நீர துடைத்து

விளக்கவுரை:
ஏதுமில்லாதோர்க்கு வழங்குவதே ஈகையாகும் மற்றவையெல்லாம்  எதையோ எதிர்பார்த்து வழங்குவது போலாகும்.

Explanation in English:
Helping to people who are under poverty is not an expectable help. If one does the same for others, that means that is expectable one.

குறள் 222:
நல்லா றெனினுங் கொளல்தீது மேலுலகம்
இல்லெனினும் ஈதலே நன்று

விளக்கவுரை:
ஒருவரிடமிருந்து ஈகை பெறுவது அத்தனை நன்மையன்று. இல்லார்க்கு ஈகை தருவதால் பின்னாளில் சொர்க்கம் கிடைக்கும் என்று நினைப்பதும் ஒருவித எதிர்பார்ப்பே.

Explanation in English:
The stance of looking for help from others is not fair. Likewise, one's expecting heaven for his having done help is also not fair.

குறள் 223:
இலனென்னும் எவ்வம் உரையாமை ஈதல்
குலனுடையான் கண்ணே யுள

விளக்கவுரை:
தன் ஏழ்மை நிலையை பிறரிடம் காட்டிக்கொள்ளாது தன் சக்திக்கேற்றவாறு  உதவிக்கரம் நீட்டுபவரே உயர்ந்த குடிமக்கள்.

Explanation in English:
The good citizen is who doesn't reveal his poorness but donating for other's needs as much as his ability.

குறள் 224:
இன்னா திரக்கப் படுதல் இரந்தவர்
இன்முகங் காணு மளவு

விளக்கவுரை:
ஈகை பெற்றவுடன் மலர்ந்த முகம் காட்டினாலும், பெறும்வரை இரக்கம் தோய்ந்த முகத்துடன் நிற்கும் நிலை பரிதாபத்திற்குரியது.

Though one who comes for aid gets blossomed face after getting food or things from one, the stance of his standing with pitiable face till he is donated is tragedious.

ஆற்றுவா ராற்றல் பசியாற்றல் அப்பசியை
மாற்றுவா ராற்றலிற் பின்

விளக்கவுரை:
தவவலிமையால் பசியை தாங்கித் கொள்ளும் ஆற்றலை விட பசியை போக்க உணவளிக்கும் ஆற்றலே பெரியது.

The stance of tackling one's hunger through spiritual meditation is not stronger than abating the hunger by serving food.

அற்றார் அழிபசி தீர்த்தல் அஃதொருவன்
பெற்றான் பொருள்வைப் புழி

விளக்கவுரை:
ஒருவரின் பசிப்பிணியை போக்க உணவளித்து மகிழ்பவனின் செல்வமனைத்தும் அழியாமல் நிற்கும்.

One who stops one's hunger by distributing food pleasantly will not lose his wealth in his life. It will stably stand for him for years.

பாத்தூண் மரீஇ யவனைப் பசியென்னுந்
தீப்பிணி தீண்ட லரிது

விளக்கவுரை:
தன் உணவை பிறர்க்கும் பகிர்ந்தளித்து தானும் உண்பவனுக்கு பசிப்பிணி என்றும் வராது.

One who is eating his food by distributing others would never get hunger sick in his life.

ஈத்துவக்கும் இன்பம் அறியார்கொல் தாமுடைமை
வைத்திழக்கும் வன்க ணவர்

விளக்கவுரை:
ஈகை அளித்து அதிலுள்ள மகிழ்ச்சியை அறியாதவரே தன் பொருள் அனைத்தையும் யாரிடமோ எங்கோ இழப்பர்.

Ones who aren't aware of that 'only helping others would cause happiness' would lose their sources to someone and somewhere in the future.

இரத்தலின் இன்னாது மன்ற நிரப்பிய
தாமே தமிய ருணல்

விளக்கவுரை:
தேடிய பொருளனைத்தையும் தானே உண்டு அனுபவித்து வாழும் நிலை, அடுத்தோரிடம் பொருள் வேண்டி கையேந்தி நிற்கும் நிலையைவிட கொடுமையானது.

The stance of enjoying all his properties himself without assisting to any one is worse than standing infront of one and begging for help.

சாதலின் இன்னாத தில்லை இனிததூஉம்
ஈத லியையாக் கடை

விளக்கவுரை:
சாவது தான் பெரும் துன்பமென்றாலும், பிறர்க்கு உதவ ஏதுமில்லாத நிலை சாவதைவிட பெரும் துன்பமாகும் என்பர் சான்றோர்.

Intellectuals would say that 'death is not an extreme tragedy but the stance of being not able to help others is the most extreme tragedy'.
