குறள் 881:
நிழல்நீரும் இன்னாத இன்னா தமர்நீரும்
இன்னாவாம் இன்னா செயின்

விளக்கம்:
நிழலும் நீரும் துன்பம் தராத வரை அவை  நல்லவையே அதுபோல் சுற்றமும் நட்பும் தொல்லை தராதவரை நல்லவர்களே.

பகைவர் என பறைச்சாற்றி பகைமை கொள்வோரிடம் கூட பயம் கொள்ள வேண்டியதில்லை, நண்பர் என்று சொல்லி நயவஞ்சகம் செய்வோரிடம் தான் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருந்தல் வேண்டும்.

ஒற்றுமையாய் இருந்தவர் ஒட்டாமல் பகைக்கொண்டால், அழிவு வரும் நிலையை அகற்றுவது அரிது.

செப்புடன் மூடி இணைந்திருப்பது போல் தோன்றினாலும் மூடி விலகி விழாது என்றில்லை அது போல் தான் உட்பகையும் நட்பாய் நடித்து இறுதியில் நச்சாய் விளங்கும்.
