குறள் 891:
ஆற்றுவார் ஆற்றல் இகழாமை போற்றுவார்
போற்றலுள் எல்லாம் தலை
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
ஒரு செயலை செய்து முடிக்கும் வல்லோரின் ஆற்றல் திறமையை பார்த்து இகழாமல் போற்றுதல் வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு போற்றுபவரே அறிவிற்சிறந்தவராவார்.

பகையை அழிக்கும் வல்லவரை பழித்து பேசுபவன், நீதி நூல்களுக்கு புறம்பாக நடந்து கொள்கிறான் என்றர்த்தம். தன் அழிவை அவனே தேடிக் கொள்கிறான் என்றும் அர்த்தம்.

அரசனின் கடும் கோபத்துக்கு உள்ளானவன் இவ்வுலகில் எங்கு சென்றாலும் அவன் உயிர் வாழ வாய்ப்பே இல்லை.

தீயில் எரிந்து காயப்பட்டவன் கூட தப்பித்துக்கொள்ள முடியும். ஆற்றல் நிறைந்த வல்லோரிடம் பகைத்துக் கொண்டவன் பிழைப்பதென்பது அரிது.

நற்குணம் நிறைந்த நல்லோரை ஒருவன் பகைத்துக் கொண்டால், அவனிடம் நிலைத்திருக்கும் பொருள் பணம் எல்லாம் வீணாகும்.

உயரிய கொள்கை கொண்ட ஆற்றலுடைய வல்லோர் சினம் கொண்டால், ஒரு அரசனின் அடக்குமுறை ஆட்சி கூட அழிந்து போகும்.
