குறள் 941:
மிகினும் குறையினும் நோய்செய்யும் நூலோர்
வளிமுதலா எண்ணிய மூன்று
- தெய்வப்புலவர்

விளக்கம்:
நூல்களில் உள்ளபடி, வாதம் பித்தம் சிலேத்துமம் (கபம்)-அளவு படி உண்டு. இவை  அதிகமானாலும் குறைந்தாலும் நோய் தீரா.

Explanation in English:
The three humours that tend in one's body such as Vadham, Pitham and kabham should neither hike nor down. Otherwise, it would cause disease.

மருந்தென வேண்டாவாம் யாக்கைக் கருந்திய
தற்றது போற்றி உணின்

விளக்கம்:
செரிமான இடைவெளி விட்டு உணவை முறையாக உட்கொண்டாலே போதும் மருந்தென்றொன்று தேவையில்லை.

One shoud give gap for digestion between the times of taking food. The one need not take any medicine.

செரித்தறிந்து அளவறிந்து உணவு உண்பவனே நெடுங்காலம் தன் உடம்புடன் வாழ்வான்.

One who eats levelly and giving gap between times of taking food  could be maintaing his body for long time.

அற்ற தறிந்து கடைப்பிடித்து மாறல்ல
துய்க்க துவரப் பசித்து

விளக்கம்:
உண்ட உணவு செரித்த பின்பு உடல் ஏற்கும் உணவு வகையறிந்து பசித்தப் பின்பு உணவுண்பதே சிறப்பு.

It's great if one eats food after digestion and knowing which food fit for his body and eating only at the time of hungry.

மாறுபா டில்லாத உண்டி மறுத்துண்ணின்

உடலுக்கு ஒத்துவராத உணவை உட்கொள்ளாமலிருப்பதே உடல் நலத்திற்கு உயர்வான மருந்து.

The best medicine is not to eat inappropriate food to one's body's status.

இழிவறிந் துண்பான்கண் இன்பம்போல் நிற்கும்
கழிபேர் இரையான்கண் நோய்

விளக்கம்:
அளவறிந்து உணவு உண்பவன் ஆனந்தமாய் இருப்பான்.அளவறியா உணவு உண்பவன் அவதிப்படுவான்.

Ones who eat food limitedly would be pleasant enough. And others would get miseries due to having food unlimitedly.

தீயள வன்றித் தெரியான் பெரிதுண்ணின்
நோயள வின்றிப் படும்

விளக்கம்:
பசியின் அளவு அறிந்து உணவு உண்பவனுக்கு எந்தக் கேடும் இல்லை. பசி இல்லாத நேரத்தில் அதிகம் உண்பவனுக்கு அளவிலான நோய் வரும்.

Explanation in English:
Ones who eat food on time only at the time of hunger, no badness to him. If eating more at the time of no hunger would get diseases a lot.

நோய்நாடி நோய்முதல் நாடி அதுதணிக்கும்
வாய்நாடி வாய்ப்பச் செயல்

விளக்கம்:
நோய் வந்த ஒருவருக்கு அந்த நோய் அவருக்கு எப்படி வந்தது என்று ஆராய்ந்து அந்த நோயைத் தீர்ப்பதற்கு அவரின் உடல் நிலை அறிந்து ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து மருத்துவம் பார்ப்பவரே மருத்துவராவார்.

The good treatmentor is one who knows the type of sick, how it did come, what is the remedy to cure according to the status of the body of the patient.

நோயுற்றவரின் வயது, நோயின் தன்மை, காலம் அறிந்து வைத்தியம் பார்ப்பவரே கற்றறிந்த மருத்துவராவார்.

The well learned doctor is one who knows the age of the patient, type of sick, duration of sick tending in the body of the patient.
