குறள் 141:
பிறன்பொருளான் பெட்டொழுகும் பேதைமை ஞாலத்தறம்பொருள் கண்டார்க ணில்

விளக்கம்:
அடுத்தவர் மனைக்கு (கணவன்/மனைவி) ஆசைப்படுவோர் அறனுக்கு முரணானவர் என்பதை கற்றோர் அறிவர்.

Explanation in English:
The characteristic of desiring other's spouse is against the morality. Well versed literates would know it.

அறன்கடை நின்றாரு ளெல்லாம் பிறன்கடை
நின்றாரிற் பேதையா ரில்

விளக்கம்:
பிறர் மனைக்கு ஒழுக்கத்திற்கு முரணாக ஆசைப்படும் செயலைப் போல கொடிய பாவம் உலகில் வேறெதுவுமில்லை.

There is no as such a worst sin in the world as desiring on other's spouse immorally.

விளிந்தாரின் வேறல்லர் மன்ற தெளிந்தாரில்
தீமை புரிந்தொழுகு வார்

விளக்கம்:
நம்பிக்கைக்குட்பட்டு அனுமதிக்கப்படுபவன் அனுமதித்தவனின் மனைவி மீது இச்சை கொள்வானானால், அவன் இறந்த உடலுக்கு சமம்.

If a person who is believed very much by another is desiring the another's wife in wrong way, such person is worse than dead body.

எனைத்துணைய ராயினும் என்னாந் தினைத்துணையும்
தேரான் பிறனில் புகல்

எத்தனைதான் உயர்வாய் இருந்து புகழ்பெற்றவராயிருந்தாலும் அவர் அடுத்தோர் மனையாளின் மேல் மோகம் கொண்டால் அவர் தன் தகுதி புகழ் அனைத்தும் மதிப்பற்று போகும்.

How far as one is prime and fame, if he wills to have other's spouse, his entire status is invalid.

எளிதென இல்லிறப்பா னெய்துமெஞ் ஞான்றும்
விளியாது நிற்கும் பழி

விளக்கம்:
எளிதான ஒன்று என்று எண்ணி பிறர் மனைவியின் மீது ஆசை கொள்வது தீர்க்க முடியாத பாவச்செயல்.

Explanation in English:
One who tries to have other's spouse by thinking that's an easy one will earn an unsoluable sin.

குறள் 146:
பகைபாவம் அச்சம் பழியென நான்கும்
இகவாவாம் இல்லிறப்பான் கண்

விளக்கம்:
பிறர் மனை நோக்கி ஆசை கொள்வோர், பகை, பாவம், அச்சம் மற்றும் பழி ஆகிய இந்த நான்கிலிருந்து தப்பிக்கவே முடியாது.

Explanation in English:
One who wills to have other's spouse will never escape from four forms such as enemines, sin, fear and crime.

அறனியலான் இல்வாழ்வா னென்பான் பிறனியலான்
பெண்மை நயவா தவன்

எச்சூழலிலும் பிறர் மனைக்கு இச்சை கொள்ளாதவரே நல்லொழுக்கத்துடன் வாழ்பவராகிறார்.

பிறன்மனை நோக்காத பேராண்மை சான்றோர்க்
கறனென்றோ ஆன்ற வொழுக்கு

பிறர் மனை நோக்காத் தன்மை அறம் மட்டுமானதல்ல, மேன்மையான ஒழுக்கம் நிறைந்தது ஆகும்.

பிறற்குரியாள் தோள்தோயா தார்

பிறர்மனை பால் விரல் கூட  படா எண்ணம் கொண்டோரே பயம் காட்டும் கடல்சூழ்ந்த இப்புவியில் வாழத் தகுதியுடையவர்.

பிறருக்கு உபகாரம் செய்யாதாகினும் பரவாயில்லை, அது ஒரு பொருட்டு அல்ல. ஆனால் பிறர்மனை பால் கனவிலும் ஆசை கொள்ளக் கூடாது.

Explanation in English:
Even if one hasn't done even a bit betterment to others, that is not a matter at all. But he shouldn't even think to desire other's wife.

குறள் 131:
ஒழுக்கம் விழுப்பந் தரலான் ஒழுக்கம்
உயிரினும் ஓம்பப் படும்

விளக்கம்:
ஒழுக்கம் ஒன்றே உலகில் உயர்வானது ஆகையால், ஒழுக்கம் உயிரிலும் மேலானதாகும்.

பரிந்தோம்பிக் காக்க ஒழுக்கந் தெரிந்தோம்பித்
தேரினும் அஃதே துணை

விளக்கம்:
நல்லொழுக்கம் ஒன்றே வாழ்வில் என்றும் துணை நிற்குமாகையால், எந்த ஒரு கஷ்ட்ட நிலை ஏற்பட்டாலும் ஒழுக்க நெறி தவறாது வாழவேண்டும்.

Despite meeting any kind of difficulties, one should keep discipline as only such is the safeguard for one's life ever.

ஒழுக்க முடைமை குடிமை இழுக்கம்
இழிந்த பிறப்பாய் விடும்

விளக்கம்:
ஒழுக்கத்துடன் வாழ்பவனே நல்லதொரு குடிமகன். இல்லேல், அவனது பிறப்பே தீமையானதாகும்.

Explanation in English:
One who is having good disciplines is a good citizen otherwise his birth means evil.

மறப்பினும் ஓத்துக் கொளலாகும் பார்ப்பான்
பிறப்பொழுக்கங் குன்றக் கெடும்

விளக்கம்:
மறந்துபோன வேதங்களை கூட திரும்ப கற்றுக் கொண்டுவிடமுடியும் ஆனால் ஒழுக்கம் தவறிப்போய் வாழ்ந்தால், குடும்பகௌரவம் நற்பெயரை இழக்கும் நிலை ஏற்படும். மீட்டெடுக்க முடியாது.

Forgotten vedic too can be relearned but losing disciplines will spoil the goodwill of one's family status, cannot be retrieved.

அழுக்கா றுடையான்கண் ஆக்கம்போன் றில்லை
ஒழுக்க மிலான்கண் உயர்வு

விளக்கம்:
எப்படி பொறாமை குணம் ஒருவனுக்கு செல்வத்தை கொண்டுவராதோ அது போல் தீய ஒழுக்கங்கள் ஒருவனின் வாழ்க்கையில் பெரிய இழப்பை ஏற்ப்படுத்தும்.

Jealousy will not bring wealth to one likewise indiscipline life will make a big loss to one.

ஒழுக்கத்தி னொல்கார் உரவோர் இழுக்கத்தின்
ஏதம் படுபாக் கறிந்து

விளக்கம்:
நன்கு கற்றறிந்தவர்கள், 'ஒழுக்கம் தவறினால் குடும்பத்தின் மதிப்பு கெடும்' என்பதை அறிவார்கள் ஆகையால், அறநெறி தவற மாட்டார்கள்.

Good men will not foul from disciplinary life as they know if they foul so, they would lose the honour of their family.

ஒழுக்கத்தி னெய்துவர் மேன்மை இழுக்கத்தின்
எய்துவ ரெய்தாப் பழி

விளக்கம்:
நல்ல பழக்க வழக்கங்களை மேற்கொள்வது ஒன்றே நல்வாழ்விற்கு வித்தாகும் இல்லேல் தீய வாழ்க்கைக்கு வழிவகுக்கும்.

Only way to get a fabulous life is, following good disciplines, failing such will lead to evil life.

நன்றிக்கு வித்தாகும் நல்லொழுக்கந் தீயொழுக்கம்
என்றும் இடும்பை தரும்

விளக்கம்:
நல்லொழுக்கங்கள் நன்மைக்கு காரணங்களாக அமையும். தீய ஒழுக்கத்துடனான வாழ்வு தீமைகளை மட்டுமே பெற்றுத்தரும்.

A fine virtuality followed in one's life will bring to the brightest life and one's Indisciplined life would cause evil manners.

ஒழுக்க முடையவர்க் கொல்லாவே தீய
வழுக்கியும் வாயாற் சொலல்

நல்ல ஒழுக்கமுள்ள மனிதன் தவறியும் கூட தீயவைகள் தரக்கூடிய வார்த்தைகளை உச்சரிக்க மாட்டான்.

A good moralitised man would never slip his tongue pronouncing illy words.

உலகத்தோ டொட்ட ஒழுகல் பலகற்றுங்
கல்லா ரறிவிலா தார்

விளக்கம்:
பற்பல கற்றறிந்த சான்றோனாக இருந்தாலும், நல்லொழுக்கம் பேணுபவர்களிடம் பழாகாதவனாக அவன் இருந்தால், அவள் ஒரு முழு முட்டாளாவான்.

Explanation in English:
If one doesn't behave with good moralitised persons, even if he is literate by studying numberlss books, he is utter fool.
