குறள் 351:
பொருளல்ல வற்றைப் பொருளென் றுணரும்
மருளானாம் மாணாப் பிறப்பு

விளக்கம்:
பொய்மையை உண்மை என்று உணர்வோர் மற்றும் பிறர்க்கும் அதை உணர்த்துவோரின் பிறப்புநிலை இழிவானதாகும்.

Explanation in English:
The stance of ones who perceive falsehood to be true and those who perceive it to others is contemptible.

இருள்நீங்கி இன்பம் பயக்கும் மருள்நீங்கி
மாசறு காட்சி யவர்க்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஒருவர் குற்ற நிலையிலிருந்து நல்ல நிலைக்கு வரும்பொழுதுதான் இன்பநிலைகளை நிறைய பெறுவர்.

One can get a lot of pleasures only when one skips him from a state of guilt to a state of good.

ஐயத்தின் நீங்கித் தெளிந்தார்க்கு வையத்தின்
வான நணிய துடைத்து

அச்சத்திலிருந்து நீங்கி தெளிந்த அறிவு பெறுபவர்களுக்கு இந்த வானமும் வசப்படும்.

This heaven will be subdued for those who are freed from fear and receive enlightened.

ஐயுணர் வெய்தியக் கண்ணும் பயமின்றே
மெய்யுணர் வில்லா தவர்க்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஒருவருக்கு ஐம்புலன்களை அடக்கியாள தெரிந்திருந்தும், மெய்யுணர்வு எது என்று அறியா நிலையில் அவர் இருந்தால் யாதொரு பயனும் இல்லை.

It is of course useless for a person to know how to suppress five senses, but if he does not know what consciousness is.

எப்பொரு ளெத்தன்மைத் தாயினும் அப்பொருள்
மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்ப தறிவு

கூறும் பொருள் எத்தகையதாகினும், யார் அதை கூறினாலும் அதிலுள்ள உண்மைப் பொருளை கண்டறிவதே சாணக்கியத்தனம்.

நன்கு கற்றறிந்து மெய்ப்பொருள் கண்டறிந்தோர்க்கு மறுப்பிறப்பு துன்பம் வந்து சேராது.

ஓர்த்துள்ளம் உள்ள துணரின் ஒருதலையாப்
பேர்த்துள்ள வேண்டா பிறப்பு

உண்மைநிலையறிந்து அதில் உறுதியாய் இருப்போர், மறுப்பிறப்பு நிலை குறித்து அஞ்சவேண்டியதில்லை.

Explanation in English:
Ones those who know by distinguishing the facts and are firm in it, do not have to fear about the state of rebirth.

பிறப்பென்னும் பேதைமை நீங்கச் சிறப்பென்னுஞ்
செம்பொருள் காண்ப தறிவு

பிறப்பு எனும் மடைமையை நீங்கச்செய்து, சிறப்பு எனும் உண்மை பொருளை கண்டறிவதே சிறந்த ஞானமாகும்.

Explanation in English:
The best wisdom is to cut off the clutter of birth and discover the true meaning of features of life.

சார்புணர்ந்து சார்பு கெடவொழுகின் மற்றழித்துச்
சார்தரா சார்தரு நோய்

விளக்கம்:
மெய்பொருளின் சார்பு என்னவென்று அறிந்து அதனை பின்பற்றி பற்றின்றி வாழ்ந்தால் துன்பங்கள் வாழ்வில் அணுகாது.

Explanation in English:
Miseries will not tend in life of ones if they know what the bias is and follow it and live without dedires.

காமம் வெகுளி மயக்கம் இவைமூன்றன்
நாமங் கெடக்கெடு நோய்

விளக்கம்:
காமம், சினம், ஆசை இவை மூன்றையும் விடாவிட்டால், சமூகத்தில் ஒருவர் தன் நற்பெயரை இழந்து தீமைகளை மட்டுமே பெறுவர்.

Explanation in English:
If the bad senses such as lust, anger and desire are not given up, one will lose one's reputation in the society and only gain evil.

குறள் 341:
யாதனின் யாதனின் நீங்கியான் நோதல்
அதனின் அதனின் அலன்

விளக்கம்:
ஒருவர் ஒன்றின் மீதுள்ள பற்றை துறந்துவிட்டால், அதன்மூலம் ஏற்படும் துன்பத்தை அடையமாட்டார்.

If one quits all desires of a thing, he will be away from miseries caused by such thing.

வேண்டினுண் டாகத் துறக்க துறந்தபின்
ஈண்டியற் பால பல

விளக்கம்:
விரும்பத்தக்கதாக ஒன்று இருப்பினும் அதை துறந்துவிட்டால் அதனால் அடையும் இன்பங்களோ பற்பல.

If one quits a thing that is such a admirable one of him, many more immense happiness would cummulate to him.

அடல்வேண்டும் ஐந்தன் புலத்தை விடல்வேண்டும்
வேண்டிய வெல்லாம் ஒருங்கு

விளக்கம்:
ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கியாளும் வித்தையை அறிந்து கொள்ளும்பட்சத்தில் அவை விரும்பும் அனைத்தையும் துறந்துவிடலாம்.

Explanation in English:
If one knows to control all five senses, he can quit the desires caused by those five senses.

இயல்பாகும் நோன்பிற்கொன் றின்மை உடைமை
மயலாகும் மற்றும் பெயர்த்து

விளக்கம்:
தவ நிலையின் இயல்பு எதுவென்றால் யாதொரு உடைமை மீதும் பற்றில்லாமல் இருத்தலே. உடைமைபால் மதிமயங்கி பற்று கொண்டால் துறவு பெறமுடியாது.

Explanation in English:
The base of penance is that to quit the desire put on anything. If one affectionates lovingly on anything, Hardly to get the stance of asceticsm.

மற்றுந் தொடர்ப்பா டெவன்கொல் பிறப்பறுக்கல்
உற்றார்க் குடம்பும் மிகை

விளக்கம்:
பிறவியின் துன்பம் வேண்டாம் என நினைப்போருக்கு அவர் தன்  உடம்பே மிகையாக இருக்கும்பொழுது பிற ஆசைகளுக்கு இடமே இல்லை.

Explanation in English:
The entire body alone is a gift to ones those who don't want the miseries of births. Being so, other desires are unnecessary.

யானென தென்னுஞ் செருக்கறுப்பான் வானோர்க்
குயர்ந்த உலகம் புகும்

விளக்கம்:
நான் தான் எல்லாம் என்ற செருக்கை அறுத்தாலே போதும் வானுலத்தை விட உயர்ந்த உலகத்தில் உட்புகலாம்.

If one cuts out the haughtiness thought "Only I am all", he will have been living in better than the heavenly world.

அனைத்து ஆசைகளையும் துறந்தவரே முற்றும் துறந்தவராவர். ஏனேயோர் ஆசையெனும் வலையில் சிக்கிக்கொண்டவராவர்.

Only those who quit all desires are known as complete ascetics. Others are those who are trapped in the net of greed.

பற்றற்ற கண்ணே பிறப்பறுக்கும் மற்று
நிலையாமை காணப் படும்

ஆசைகளற்ற வாழ்க்கையே மறுபிறப்பை அறுக்கும். இல்லேல் பிறந்து பிறந்து சாகும் நிலைதான் தொடரும்.

Only the desireless life would cut off the stance of rebirths. Otherwise, should get rebirths and meet out suffering ever.

பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை அப்பற்றைப்

பற்று அற்றவர்களின் பற்று யாதென்று அறிந்து அதனை பற்றிக்கொண்டாலே பற்றுகளனைத்தையும் விட்டுவிடலாம்.

If one knows the desire of ones those who quit all desires, he can quit all of his desires.
